Srinagar, Dec 17 (KNO): From a small bakery in Srinagar to becoming a groundbreaker in India’s food processing industry, Gulam Mahiuddin Sufi is proving how government support can transform dreams into reality. As benefiting from the Prime Minister Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, Sufi has not only expanded his business but also introduced a creative product with India’s first fortified bread enriched with essential nutrients like iron, folic acid, and vitamin B-12. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Ministry of Food Processing Industries shared a video in which Sufi explained how the scheme has helped him expand his business. “We manufacture 45 bakery products, including India’s first fortified bread enriched with iron, folic acid, and vitamin B-12. We also produce millet-based cookies,” he said. Through financial assistance under the PMFME Scheme, he has been able to procure machinery and diversify his production, boosting his business significantly. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and the Government of India for support. “With this assistance, I can grow my business well and also have bought machinery. With it, I can prepare various types of bread," Sufi said. He thanked the Ministry of Food, Government of India, for providing him with an opportunity to visit World Food India 2024—(KNO)
